What kind of punishment am I looking at for this particular case of credit card fraud?
Jims asked:
Age: 17.5. Crime: Credit Card Fraud (Found on Ground, used) Total Spent= 850-900 Dollars. First Criminal Offense of Any kind. Will I be looking at jail time or just fines and community service? Or all three…? How will this affect going to college or succeeding in the working world?
State is Illinois.

Hopefully theyll cut your nuts off and send the bill to your parents

Identity theft, fraud, and forgery. If they charge you as an adult you are looking at prison time, a record and lots of problems with getting into college or a job. Stupid.

I hate people like you.. Go out and get a real job instead of stealing off of the working people..
I found $500 on the ground a few months back and I really needed money for my power bill.. I thought about keeping it, but I would never do such a thing.. I waited for about 10 minutes until I heard someone say they lost their money and I asked them how much and gave it right back to them..
Karma is a bltch and you will get what is coming to you..

In Texas it’s a State Jail Felony. 2 Years State Jail.
If you’re lucky you get probation. But it is something that will haunt you forever. You might be able to seal it if you get Deferred probation, but if you want to work in a field where you need a state issued license, you’re screwed.

I hope you learn your lesson from this incident. They should throw the book at you.

notyou311: nowhere on a normal college application asks if you have a criminal record. actually, if you are applying for a college that requires you to write a paper on why you feel you should attend their institution, they love hearing stories about how “you overcame personal problems and mistakes”
mhmd: he said it was in illinios – stfu
btw: the federal government had to issue a law so texas would stop executing mentally handicapped people, so you will have to excuse me for not putting much faith in their prison system.
Gertie: perfect. throw the book at him. i’m willing to bet that either
A: you did at least one thing in your past that was illegal, and were never caught…
or…
B: you’re 15 and have no basis on how to judge this
or…
C: you’re spoiled and were given everything you wanted, and never felt bad because you wanted things you couldn’t have.
I do not condone crime. What he did was bad and should be punished. But if this was his first offense, does feel regret, can and SHOULD repay the money he spent… he shouldn’t be judged for the rest of his life for something bad he did when he was a kid. Fair punishment? Repay money he spent. Community service. Probation. If he is truly a threat to society, he will violate his parole and go to jail.
Well know some of you are asking “What about the victim of his probation violation?”
National recidivism rate of an underage person of a non-violent crime that did no jail time: under 20%
National recidivism rate of an underage person of a non-violent crime that spent time in jail: almost 70%

You cannot be charged in the state of Illinois.
Gurbruder vs. Dixon, 1988
Do you live in Illinois?
Better get moving.

You should order a large pizza, smoke a fat blunt and masturbate furiously instead of worrying so much.
