Scottsdale, Ariz. (PRWEB) March 05, 2012

At one time, personally identifiable information, or PII, was simply a Social Security number, birth date and mother’s maiden name. But recent hacks, breaches and cyber attacks at some of the world’s largest corporations have changed the definition of a person’s identity assets to include email addresses, passwords and PINs. Additionally, consumers are giving an ever-increasing amount of confidential information consumers to a wider and wider variety of companies, government entities, organizations, and individuals.

For the 12th year in a row, identity theft accounted for the top consumer complaint according to the Federal Trade Commission Consumer Sentinel Report. As the volume of private information grows and evolves, consumers need to take a fresh look at how to protect privacy and avoid identity theft, fraud and scams. Identity Theft 911, the nations premier identity management and data risk management services provider, is more than happy to participate in the Federal Trade Commissions 14th annual National Consumer Protection Week (NCPW) by providing the following 9 practical tips to safeguard identity assets.

1.Look at the big picture for your PII. Today, identity isnt just a password here or a number there, but an entire picture of the identity relationships youve created.

2.Create your PII ChartTM. By category, note each relationship we have with companies which keep personally identifiable information regarding we. Dont stop with all the popular ones, like companies, universities, practitioners, lenders, banks, plus e-mail services. The identity lives inside less apparent places, too a online plus social networking accounts; frequent flier programs; homeowners associations; churches; volunteer organizations; pastime clubs; even with home helpers plus libraries.

3.Include your children PII, too. Think daycare, pediatricians, universities, gaming plus iTunes accounts, Little League associations, plus summer camps. And go and visit the strategies for parents, too.

four.Set up distinctive passwords for every PII category. For instance, don’t utilize the same password to log into a Facebook account which we utilize for online banking. Take a pass about simple access to a accounts with sturdy passwords.

5.Guard a mobile equipment. Its inconvenient to enter numbers or perhaps a pattern each time you need to access the device, nevertheless its more inconvenient to have a identity stolen. Passwords offer another layer of security from thieves getting access to the credentials.

6.Use different credit cards online plus off. Dedicate a single credit card to online buying, plus don’t utilize it for anything else. Ditto for the childs online gaming account (plus NEVER link it to a debit card linked to a bank account). Follow the tricks to safeguard credit plus debit cards.

7.Set limits about who-knows-what for every piece of the PII. For instance, beneath childrens escapades, do your children pottery plus karate teachers want their complete birth dates or might month plus day do?

8.Trim the amount of information we keep available to lower risk. Delete unneeded information about a smartphone (including overlooked password reset messages). Purge older files from a computer. And when the smartphone remains geotagging images (often the standard setting), consider disabling the feature. Photos are piece of the PII, too.

9.Treat a identity is an assetas useful because cash inside hand. And its conveniently compromised from theft or perhaps a information breach. So become familiar all the strategies for safeguarding a identity.

Question by BS9999: Transunion/Equifax – Is there a method to eliminate the “Fraud Victim Flag” i Placed about my Credit File?
Back inside 2004 i lost my SSN (or SIN for Canadian readers) so i called Transunion plus Equifax to report this. At the time they mentioned they might place a scam flag about my account thus which when anybody tried to receive credit the creditor might need to contact me by mobile to confirm my identity before proceeding.

My query, is there a method to eliminate this Flag from my credit file becuase i dont need this additional security anymore plus i feel by having it about lenders become suspicious plus limit what i may receive. I havent approached Trans/Equifax yet because they are shut today (wont open till monday).

Best answer:

Answer by judge5519
All you ought to do is call them plus explain the cause we wish it removed plus they might yet because we mentioned they are shut until Monday. Do it on Monday there is nothing to do till then

Question by golly23es: I have a retail company plus have had a customer employ fruadulent credit. what security do I need to not lose.
The customer utilized different cards. I suspected him of scam plus informed the bank. They told me to not worry. Then they have return to me a week later plus following more purchases plus mentioned it was scam as well as need the revenue off me. It appears unfair which I must lose as much as 30,000 pounds whenever I told them my suspicions as well as told me to not worry. I would want to learn how I may avoid the bank from taking all revenue off me. The ttransactions were completed primarily by telephone.

Best answer:

Answer by blahber
Yeah they screwed we… Call visa, mastercard, etc any cards we take, then ask those to receive a merchant quantity, from there you are able to authorize them with the amount plus ensure they are okay take care bud, receive a attorney plus sue which bogus bank my friend!
